Do I need to assign roles to user/1?
Hey!
My question is, if I create additional roles like "administrator" or "editor", do I need to assign them to my superuser account? I read some best practices, and I found that it is safer to create additional administrative/editing roles, so that you don't use user/1 for everything all the time. Well, I did create a new administrator role with some more advanced permissions, but the following situation emerged: when I click to edit the superuser ("admin"), the only role assigned to the account by default is "authenticated user". When I added the new role, it appeared as an option, but it wasn't checked off by default.
Now, when I enable all roles for user/1, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever; user/1 still has access to everything regardless of whether other roles except authenticated are enabled. My confusion came when I installed the FCKEditor module. I was advised to enable it for editors/administrators only, but I was also given the reminder that I should assign the editor/administrator roles to user/1, since it doesn't have them by default.
So, why should I assign other roles to user/1, since it's supposed to be the "god mode" account?
P.S. Is there a way to completely disable the possibility of deletion/restriction of the user/1 account? I ask this question because I found it was quite easy to accidentally delete/modify the superadmin.
Thanks.

IIRC, user 1 always is in 'god' mode and should be able to do anything any other roles are able to do. Not quite sure if FCKeditor does something odd though...

Assigning the role to User 1
Assigning the role to User 1 is a quirk of FCKEditor. It needs to know what profile to use and that is based on roles. User 1 always has full permissions within Drupal.
As for protecting user 1, it's best to ask only a single question in a post. That said, check out the Protect critical users module.

Do I need this feature at all?
Thanks for your replies. I think the way FCKEditor works with roles is very confusing for a new user like me. The weirdest part is that if I give permissions to the administrator role to access fckeditor, but don't configure fckeditor's profile, when I assign the administrator role to user/1, the WYSISWUG disappears even for the superadmin! How come that is possible?
Are all modules working like that? As it has been proven to me by the system, it is very easy to limit user/1 just by assigning an already permission-limited role to the account. How come that is possible, if user/1 has access to everything all the time? Is there any important reason for one to assign roles to the superuser? Why does this feature even exist?
P.S. ScoutBaker, you saved me a lot of trouble by providing me with this module. It is EXACTLY what I have been looking for, since I discovered how easy it is to mess up the primary account.
You do realize that the
You do realize that the actual FCKeditor is not a Drupal module? The module connects the 3rd-party editor into the Drupal system. Since we don't control how the editor itself works, the module has to provide the information the editor script requires.

Question remains...
The question for me remains... why is there the option of assigning roles to user/1 if it will have full permissions regardless of anything?
...
User 1 gets to do anything and everything on the site. (Some say that you should create another role for your main user account and just use #1 for updating the site.)
I'm wondering if the editor wants you do add it to the filter/user inputs and make sure it's available that way.
~silverwing - haven't used the editor in question
