Filter Announcements by author or taxonomy on different pages?

njnorm - February 2, 2009 - 17:52

I am using the Announcements module, and would like to publish different announcements in the teaser block on two different pages. The client has two different departments that need their department child pages to only show announcements relevant to that department.

I've added two taxonomy terms to the announcements content type, and set up two different views with an argument to filter the blocks on the respective department's pages to only show things tagged with a certain taxonomy term. I'm certain that I'm not using views properly. Not sure what the Option, Wildcard, Wildcard Sub fields should contain.

I've also attempted to use views to filter by Author, as the departments will always have their respective department head as the author of the announcement, but this was unsuccessful as well.

Any suggestions? I'm relatively new to views, and I'm sure it's just a case of me not using the system properly.

Thanks!

Blocks require argument handling code for arguments in order to function properly. See Contextual View Blocks for some examples.

That post definitely points

That post definitely points me in the right direction. Two problems:

1. I code with a sledgehammer--slamming everything into place until it fits. In this case, it's going to be difficult for me to do that, because the current use cases are just dissimilar enough to throw me off.

2. My area to post argument handling code is uneditable. It's basically locked out, so that I can't click on it or write in it. I've seen this in certain text areas when trying to create custom blocks. I think it may be a conflict with TinyMCE, which I've installed to provide WYSIWYG capabilities for content purposes. Do you think this is a TinyMCE issue, or is there an additional setting or mod that I have to install to enable the argument handling code section?

I code with a sledgehammer...

LOL-- i've never heard that expression before, that describes me perfectly as well. ;-)

And my guess is yes, it's a tinymce problem. I was having frequent tinymce problems like this on various fields. I've since switched to fckeditor and haven't had a problem since (i disabled wysiwyg on all of admin/*).

Why not post this in the module issue queue, where it might get better attention.
