Please enable DHTML Module. This will cut down on HTTP refresh request and substantially lower you bandwidth as well.

Hum, the upgrade is concerned with minimal changes and mostly getting the site working on Drupal 6. The redesign is concerned with new functionality, and Mark Boulton's heavily community-involved designs have other means for navigation. We are not going to add random new functionality there, sorry.
