Can the output message be themed?

Description
When a message is sent the personal message is sent in addition to the default message, which doesn't really make sense to me. Is there a way to remove the default message if a personal message is included? Also, the output message has the closing line and signature all on the same line. It would be really great if there was a line break in between the sections... anybody figure out how to do this?
