Site For Students...

Hi,

I've installed and configured a couple of Drupal sites on my own wamp-based and lamp-based servers and these sites are working quite well...

What I'm trying to do now is create a Drupal site to use with my students for my classes. I'm not sure that Drupal can do exactly what I want, and if it can I'm not sure how to configure it...

Essentially, I want to create a separate section for each one of the classes...(they are different subjects) and make it possible for each of my students to have their own area (or portfolio section) where they can keep various e-learning materials...I would like the students to have the option to make their stuff either private or public. In other words, to choose whether or not to share their work with other students...

I'm also wondering if there's a way to do grading online...is there some kind of a grade book module for Drupal?

Finally, as the Admin of the site, I must have the option to see and access all of the students' work...

I looked at DrupalEd, which seems to have some modules that may do what I'm trying to do. I am, however, somewhat reluctant to use it since it is based on an older version of Drupal and since there's not much available by way of instructions on how to configure DrupalEd...

Any suggestions on how I can do what I'm trying to do would be very helpful. I know that there are specific Learning Management Systems out there that I can use, but I like the idea of sticking with Drupal because of the number of themes available as well as the fact that the contributed modules make it possible to expand the site and make it grow in ways that LMS options do not allow...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you tried phpEdu Installation Profile @ http://drupal.org/project/Installation+profiles. Give it a try and let us know what you think. If it doesn't work for you, then you have to put bits an pieces together to make the nest. Just out of curiosity, will you be introducing any interactive learning material?.

Hi, Thanks for the

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion...I'll definitely take a look at this...it looks quite promising...

Eventually I would like to introduce interactive learning material...in the form of a learning path...something similar to what an LMS like Dokeos offers...

I like the idea of a dynamic learning environment where I could set up a learning path and have the students work their way through the learning path module and then complete some sort of assignment at the end to assess the students' learning...Dokeos offers this and it's quite powerful...

The thing about Dokeos, however, is that it's limited in terms of its look...there aren't many themes available and also its future flexibility is limited because there aren't very many expansion modules...

How to install these modules...

Hi,

Just a quick question about installing the phpEdu modules and phpEdu profiles...

Can I install these in an already existing Drupal installation, or do these modules need to be installed on a fresh installation....

I'm asking because I'm not familiar with how to set up the phpEdu profile, and the installation instructions are not particularly clear...

Any help with this would be very much appreciated...

Thanks,

Ronen

It's better to do have it on a clean install, and in the start you 'll have an option of selecting between the default drupal installation, and PhpEdu profiles. I haven't tried it on an existing site, so will not be able to tell you. Mind you that all the modules have to be in the modules directory, (preferably in sites/all/modules directory), and the PhpEdu profile has to be in profiles directory where you default profile is located.
