In this display those < em > tags are not visible however they are coming in the mails...

Did you figure out how to get rid of them? ;)

I'm using some other module and SMTP mailer and get these tags in the emails for every variable - looking for a solution as well...

#3

You can try using mime mail or html mail module... try to send mails in the html format.
Hope this helps

Regards
Sagar
