I would like to use this code to highlight image maps as intended, but I would also like to allow viewers to click on a defined area in an image map and leave the highlighting on such areas. It would be even better if clicking a second time would get rid of the highlighting.

The idea is to track where users are clicking on an image. To make thus user-friendly, I would like to give users the ability to keep track of where they have clicked.

If this kind of functionality could be added, that would be great! Thanks.

This module is just a wrapper for the features already available in the jquery plugin. If features are added to the plugin, i'll gladly add an interface to them here. You may wish to followup with the plugin author at plugins.jquery.com. Thanks for the idea though.
