Can't make galleries at all..

Hi,
i'm running drupal 6.9 on localhost (Apache,Mysql) under Windows XP.
I'm facing lot of problems trying to do the simplest gallery..
I've tried to manually put images on folder and even the uploading
tool given with FastGallery.
When I use the first method, I only obtain an empty page with my
gallery caption. And when i use the uploader, i receive a (no more
detailed..) error on every image i put on it, and then i see no files
in the destination directory.
Any help?

Ok,
one issue is solved: i wasn't able to create my gallery by putting files manually
on folders because my webserver hadn't php_mbstring.dll and php_exif.dll enabled.
They must be enabled in that order.
But, what if my service provider has not those features enabled?
Is there any way to escape that exif reading? I've unchecked all
the boxes in administration page, but it didnt work until i've enabled
those php libraries.
Well, i've still problems with the internal uploader by the way.
