It depends on the theme, the theme you downloaded may not have a right sidebar by design. You may have to go into the theme folder and modify the page.tpl.php, style.css, and theme.info files if you want a right sidebar. Other than that your best bet is probably to download a theme that has one.

I would like to see if i can
I would like to see if i can make this theme work first. How would i go about adding in a right sidebar i just dont know what to look for or even begin. I have enough basics of coding to know what im looking at/for. Just give me a push in the right direction :D.

Searching like this might help if the usual documentation didn't make enough sense.
Me, I would just look at any other theme that does have a region and see what's different about it. It's pretty obvious once you open up the file. Or view-source.
