I have a situation where i need to have two different news sections on my front page.

How can i have two different news divs? Now i only have $content on the theme and i dont want both of my content types to display on the same div where the $content is.

How to solve this? Can i load certain nodes to theme with php and mysql queries?

Have you looked at the panels (for the two areas) and views (for the two lists)?
