Promoting erases images from xml

Description
It happened twice in a row. I prefer to display my slide shows as inserts in blog posts rather than as full nodes, so Diaporama is configured to display only in its own view unless called up by an embed. I thought I'd try a shortcut and promote the teaser for a new show to the front page. Got a warning: xml 1161 has no images. Something like that. Thought I'd see what happened to the full-sized version under the same circumstances. Same deal. When I demoted both nodes, weird things happened. Some of the images came back.
What's the deal?
To get everything working properly, I had to resubmit each of the two nodes.
