I'd appreciate it if Timetracking nodes recalculated the duration automatically. Currently, I have to clear the duration for it to be recalculated.

It is the desired behavior, because it permits you to adjust the duration manually.

Perhaps an option can be added for this.

Combining into #498122: Recalculation of tax amounts / totals on edit so that this can be handled with some similar issues.
