The forum topic says it all...

It's getting to the stage where I am not going to look forward to the upgrade because I have not documented half (in fact ANY) of the changes I have made. (Yeah, I know, I'm an idiot - but I spose I could still create a file comparison list etc etc and do it from here... ok, I'll fix that as soon as I finish this message)

My question is, if it get's to the stage where I have so much customised, that I can't afford the hassles of upgrading, will security patches still be made available for 4.6? and for what period of time?

What is the BEST method of being able to customise your site AND stay current?

I ran into the same dilemma as well.

my solution is to install a separate copy of the latest version, and try to recreate all my customizations as modules and themes. This way whenever I upgrade, there is a separation between the core and my own code. Whilst there are some customizations that just plain impossible to modulize, its suprising how flexible hooks and general custom functions inserted directly into pages using php input format can be.

I was abit fustrated that some of my cool comments module hacks can't be modulized, but less fustrated then when I have to recode them back every time there is a major upgrade.

there's still alot i don't know about drupal, maybe someone has a better way to do this.

I suspect that security releases for 4.6 will be made untill 4.8 is out. No guarantee though.
