Would it be possible to integrate the API-function of the "Privatemsg-Module" in the wonderful "Flag Friend-Module" so that the user is also informed by a private message about friend requests? Up to now it seems as if the information can only be sent via "external" eMails.

I found a node on it which might be helpful: http://drupal.org/node/288183 (?) . But I have no clue about the programming at all.

I can't provide a working patch as I don't know your schema/module, but you might be interested in http://drupal.org/node/373044. I can also try to answer questions if there are any, as I know privatemsg pretty well now :)
