The first link provides a patch for 7.x-dev actually, and I am still using 6.13, will keep an eye on it in case the patch is backported.

Also, the link for the module is the same as the one for the patch, could you re post it?

I am also considering the webform module instead of drupal's default contact form, but I have not made up my mind yet.

I got the feeling the patch could/would work on 6.x but then I'm not a fan of patching core so maybe this one is better.

Using webform is certainly more flexible and also gives some nice reports etc.

Anyway, hope the above is useful.
