I had to work through the Panels Plugin API so I created a Panels Plugin Example module which shows how a developer an create several of the plugin types.

I would appreciate it if you could take a look at this and make any suggestions or corrections, and also if you could mention it on your project and api pages. It may help people to take better advantage of the code you've so generously supplied to us.

I love it when people create documentation. I'm going to admit I haven't read it yet but there are two things I would like to suggest:

1) Since this was against the 6.x-2.x version of panels, can you doublecheck and make sure it's still viable against Panels 3?

2) You might want to consider looking at advanced help and creating docs in its format. Panels doesn't have anything in there yet and I know merlinofchaos would love some tutorials in it.

I updated this for Panels 3/Ctools and have submitted it for inclusion in Ctools. See #537776: CTools Plugin Example module provided for inclusion with CTools.
