10000 visitors every day, shared hosting or dedicated server?
PalWoo - November 12, 2005 - 14:35
My site based on drupal has 10000 visitors (50000 pages, 2G bandwidth) every day now and I think I can gain more than 20000 visitors every day in 7 or 8 monthes. What I want to know is: shared hosting or dedicated server, which should I choose? I talked with the man from http://www.lunarpages.com online, he suggestd I buy dedicated server because drupal cost CPU very much. Want to hear suggestion from you, thanks in advance.

You should not even think
You should not even think about getting a shared hosting. Go for a dedicated server. It is less hassle and you have complete control. Good luck
The cheapest Dedicated
The cheapest Dedicated Hosting Plan ($99/Month) offers Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz,
RAM 512 MB, 80G disk space and 2000G bandwith. 80G disk space and 2000G bandwith are too wasteful for me, what I need most is to let drupal run fast and smoothly.
Well, with that much traffic
Well, with that much traffic if you want it to run fast and smoothly you're going to need to get a dedicatd hosting plan.
I think you should go for a
I think you should go for a Pentium class CPU with 1 gig memory. You will be able to get it for $150. If you want to grow, get a solid base to avoid hassles in the future
Yes Dedicated/managed
Definitely you've got to go for dedicated/managed hosting.
It is not even a question about using shared, simply forget about shared.
With that amount of traffic, I'd wish my site was so trafficated.
How the hell did manage to get hold of all that traffic?
Enjoy your traffic, and make your visitors a favor by having your site on a dedicated/managed server!
Depends
I've run sites with that level of traffic on shared servers with no problem. The big problem is that while under a normal load you can do fine on that kind of server, if your host does not do some kind of load balancing (and most of the cheap ones seem not to) your performance can go bad in a hurry if other busy sites end up on the same box. You also can run into problems if you share the server with spammers or porn sites and don't have a unique IP address.
