So i was wondering. Does anybody have any recumendatuions for hosting? I would like
-user friendly
-drupal to work out of the box
-stable
-cheap
-easy in way of maintaining and backing up database
There will be no user file upload. Just text in comments and user avatars. The plan for the project is 1 year period. And then to decide to proceed or shut down.
I will run drupal 6 as CMS and forum for discussion. Right now there is no users. But i don't know. Maybe in the end of the year there will be 10 maybe 1000 users. Just don't know.
The page will be in English language and intended for world wide usage. Not local. I am from EU. But don't care too much for now where hosting will be. Just that its what i expect it to be in this "start-up" year. All payment will be trough pay pay account.
Thanks for all suggestions.

The problem begins to arise when one expects high level of service to come cheap.
If you are serious about your site. Stay away from budget value hosts. Get a VPS at minimum which will allow your site to grow in an environment where you aren't having to work under the restraints of an overcrowded server.
If you are uber serious get a dedicated box.
Yes but!
I don't have high expectations for now. I prefer my new site to be "low profile" for a period of one year. I will not support the page financially for now in big amounts. So if the thing developes i will grow with it one step at the time. But for now "el-cheapo" is the way to go for me.
But there is just so many of them. So first hand information of Drupal users would be much appreciated.

The problem with advice on shared hosting IMO is this. I can tell you that site5 (as an example) is good. For me it may be right at this time. However, there is no guarantee that your account winds up on my server which for the time being may not be overcrowded. This holds true for every budget host as far as my experience is concerned.
Basically it's hit or miss. My advice is to seek out an outfit that has been in the market place for a while. Fly by night outfits seem common place as they tend to be resellers for other hosting outfits.
I'd want to know if the host I am considering owns their servers or is simply a reseller in the middle.
I agree.
Yes i agree completely. This is why i opened this topic. To find out first hand things from other users like:
But from users that have been there and done that. In the end i will have to choose one in good faith. I will spent some time in the end finding and reading users opinions with google. But it doesn't hurt to ask here to. After all i will use Drupal.
VPS hosting
I'd recomment HotDrupal (http://hotdrupal.com); they have a range of affordable hosting plans and their support is exemplary.
Pete.
Thanks
I will look in to it.
Yes
I agree with that, you should consider starting with hotdrupal, com
I take it you're with them too?
I'm very impressed by the support; I'm in the UK, but I've called them (they have a London number that gets you straight through to their offices Stateside) and chatted to Steve Brown (the head honcho) about some technical issues; he was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
For routine stuff, the response time on their online ticketing system is usually minutes.
You don't get that with many hosting plans!
Pete.
