Is there any possibility to configure the Links Package so it parses selected text areas, when adding/editing content, and replaces any links with place holders that the links package will then manage?

Unfortunately, Links can't do that right now. I actually have considered adding this as a feature, because I think it would be useful, but I haven't yet had time to do so.
