Issue Summary

Is there any way to limit taxonomy terms to be unique so each term can only be used once.

I have a list of codes that I want to be able to assign to users, but each user only gets one code, and each code can only have 1 user. The list of codes would be added as terms to choose from and then would be "disabled" once that code has been used.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

One of this module could solve your problem by setting CCK field for taxonomy http://drupal.org/node/212834 (not tested)

Hi superjames and gregoiredavid,

I can confirm that the Unique Field module works to require that taxonomy terms specified within a Content Taxonomy field are unique. However, the Unique Field module does not currently work with terms specified using the core taxonomy system.

I'd gladly accept sponsorship to develop support for using taxonomy terms as a characteristic of nodes that must be unique or as a scope that defines the group of nodes to have fields which must be unique. If you're interested in sponsoring this work, please contact me by e-mail.

I've added support for using taxonomy terms as a "field" that must be unique in the latest development version (dated 2010-January-20 or later) of the Unique Field module for Drupal 6.
