Ok Guys/Gals ,

I can confirm one thing. www.recovery.gov is on drupal.

We were able to put this pretty fast and in the coming months you are going to see how its going evolve.
A lot of dynamic data would be posted there, and you will see a more powerful website on drupal soon.

There are many things which were not done, which could have been done. But I assure you will see them soon.
Keep giving your ideas and suggestions to improve this website.

Thanks,

Recovery.gov Development Team

I have to say GREAT JOB. I would love to see a front page style write up of the site-- with particular attention to the accessibility aspects (especially since it's a govt site).

This is great to see and can only help Drupal in the long run! Looking forward to the developments and seeing how the site evolves.

PS: I'm not sure if clean urls are turned off for a specific reason, but otherwise it would be a good idea to enable them. :-)

In case there is concern about "the URLs changing" (I'm guessing the PR people might be concerned)... if you enable Pathauto, all of the existing links will still work, but future viewers will get more legible URLs (which will also look better when shown in print or on TV or spoken on the radio, as they very well may be in the case of this site). If there is any concern about performance of URL aliases, something to look into is Path Cache module, and possibly Memcache.

America voted for the President... the President voted for Drupal! (j/k... but still a great move).

I'm a very lightweight timeline user and was thrilled to see it at the bottom of the page!

It seems to be stuck in dev status and the current maintainer says he doesn't have the time to make it stable. Maybe your group could? :-) I'm not really into writing php for the time being.

Out of curiosity, is this built in house or is it built by an external agency.

I would be very interested to know more about how this was completed. I am working on another government project and would love to use Drupal. Thanks

"ABC News' Rick Klein reports: 'For those concerned about stimulus spending, the General Services Administration sends word tonight that $18 million in additional funds are being spent to redesign the Recovery.gov Web site. "Recovery.gov 2.0 will use innovative and interactive technologies to help taxpayers see where their dollars are being spent," James A. Williams, commissioner of GSA's Federal Acquisition Service, says in a press release announcing the contract awarded to Maryland-based Smartronix Inc. according to the ABC news blog.'"

is recovery.org still going to be on Drupal after this 18 mio redesign?

I couldn't agree more. Great for Drupal, bue SERIOUSLY, how is this worth $18,000,000 of taxpayers money.
Is anyone out there questioning this?

All that money doesn't go only to developers, that would be criminal. I guess there's a lot staff sourrounding a website like this. Lots of people analyzing and uploading data. Also lots of hosting costs... gov sites lie whitehouse.gov use Akamai's network to be able to deal with the huge amount of traffic they must have. I used Akamai in one project and their service is excellent but very expensive as well...

you can't find user login page there. it should like http://www.recovery.gov/?q=user
how this is done?

1. Since this is all about transparency, what are you charging for use of Drupal for the project?

2. Why is it costing taxpayers $18 million dollars for the recovery.gov site ? http://tr.im/wGCO

The basis of this website is to track spending with transparency? Does ANYONE find this a bit overpriced?

Sam.

good point about transparency...it would be interesting to see why they revamped the site and dropped drupal.

a lot of the costs for a project like that would be be admin....like training. In other words, I sincerely doubt there was an individual drupal developer logging in as admin to update everything on the site!! Secure hosting/back-end would be significant as well..and probably an eight year contract (rather than 4!).

My guess on the reason why they dropped drupal was to do with getting the data into the drupal site...I can see how it would be easier to work with .net, if the offline tools are microsoft access etc. for handling economic data. A neater fit.

dub

Currently in Switzerland working as an Application Developer with UBS Investment Bank...using Drupal 7 and lots of swiss chocolate

18 million for a website.....jesus christ...id say whoever landed the contract couldnt believe their luck. Disgraceful amount of money to spend on a website. There is alot of content on the site but I cant imagine how it could have cost anything near 18 mill.

New makeover. Doesn't look like Drupal anymore to me. Lots of .aspx stuff and the metadata says .net in the head.

Oh, and another $9.5 Million spent for the redo. UGH!
