of what this would be used for. I was working on something like this, but perhaps you could list some practical examples.

You can use this module for displaying an image beside a node or for giving a summary about the node text in a block. This module is useful, if you have some information, you don't want to have listed above or below the node, but in a block instead.

I'm sorry, but I do not have a demo page set up, yet. I have one public site using cck blocks. Have a look at this:

You can see the content of the node on the left side and a short summary of the text on the right sidebar. That is done with cck blocks, including tokens for the headline of the summary.
