It works great with accent characters too. (like ő,õ,ű,û)

When I tried to replace a character to space, (PUNCTUATION SPACE -> SPACE) it said: "Replace field is required."
So it doesn't accept space for replacement. IMHO replacing to nothing would also acceptable.

I don't know this is bug or feature, but please fix this. My drupal site is an online version of a newspaper. The content is copied from DPD, which contains an unhealthy amount of strange characters. Some of them (like punctuation space) show up as squares in IE.

That makes perfect sense. When I created the module I couldn't think of a use case for replacing something with nothing.
Working on it now.

Done, the dev release now supports replacing with space or blank string
