The Wysiwyg API (http://drupalmodules.com/module/wysiwyg-api) module seems to be a more promising project than the Document Import API. It's under active development and there's even an own group: http://groups.drupal.org/wysiwyg

err..ok but I don't see that project really being related to this. They're working on integrating text editors, i'm trying to make a batch import to upload a file and convert it into nodes. :)

Yes, but a some point you will have to do some mapping or converting of different formats. And those issues are similar for everyone trying to get content into Drupal.
