What about using the token module to provide more flexibility to this great module? For instance I'd like to use an abbreviated name of an organic group (from a cck field) instead of its huge explaining-everything title.
I'm very new to Durpal module development, thus not sure how to implement it myself if you like the idea, too...

It's a great idea.

Using Tokens & integrating this with the Drupal path / pathauto system would definitely be the ideal way to go...

Unfortunately, it would be a lot of work and I can't dedicate the time to it at the moment.
