How could I show who's online showing the names (for registered users) and IPs for visitors?

I know, I know, it could be problematic for a high traffic site with several hundreds users on the same time but it is definitely not my (site's) case :-)

Has anyone done this? I had such a thing on an old non-Drupal site, was a pretty simple script, I need to track it down and port it to Drupal

Go to Structure > Block > Who's online (you have to enable this feature by placing it to any region i.e. sidebar, content, footer etc.)

And for IP address, you have to use a module. Search the "IP address" in drupal website in module section.
