together it would be the perfect interface for administration ...

I'll try to find what the problem is between those 2 modules. But I probably won't start on it before next week.

maybe there is not really a problem - maybe it's more the principle question of combining two views displays ...

This has been postponed for more than two years. And I don't even see any concrete action that could be taken.
If you have a specific problem with using editablefields and VBO together (latest -dev versions), open a new issue.
