Events by node

It would be nice if any node, regardless of its type, could be made into an event. A checkbox in the node creation/edit page could enable it as an event (along with appropriate event information).

The problem with the current system is that all nodes of event types must be events. This effectively prevents a content type from serving a dual purpose. For example, for many web sites, a “story” type might be useful for news items (which aren’t events), and for announcing meetings, etc., (which are events). Many naive users won’t understand the requirement that there are separate content types for stories and meetings, but seeing an event checkbox and filling in appropriate event information would make sense to them.
