How to display image of one type?

Im confused on this issue.. Heres what I have.
1. Upload an image via node cck imagefield.
2. The image then is shown in the folder like this:
image.jpg
image.jpg.thumb.jpg
3. When Fast gallery finds the directory (which in my case is "sites/default/files/uploads/full_image[user]" it shows both images.
I understand that this would be correct behavior as per the system settings, but there has got to be something im missing somewhere.
Are there other settings? Is this an imagecache or imagefield issue?
Any help greatly appreciated!
