I have just upgraded to 6.x-1.x-dev (2009-02-25) and the sitemaps have disappeared from all of my sites, replaced with Access Denied. There are no error messages, just an "Access Denied" on the /sitemap.xml page.
I have created a separate issue from 35412 since this is for Drupal 6 and appears to be different.

The access denied error is different from the not found error; the first is given when a resource exists, but the user doesn't have access to it.

I am setting this report like duplicate of #382692: Access denied to sitemap.xml.

If you want to know why this is not a bug, read the project page (http://drupal/project/xmlsitemap). When you open a report, the first part of the form suggest to first read the project page (sigh!).

I rolled back to the previous version. That fixed it.
