Another thread, http://drupal.org/node/358617, also discusses this topic, but wondering if anyone ever figured out how to generically expose modification for any CCK fields to VBO.?.? If so, could you post a sample?

Excellent suggestion, and I'd been thinking about the same thing lately :-)

Unfortunately, the fieldactions module doesn't provide this functionality. I am currently working on another module that is somehow related to this problem, so I will gain more insight into it over the next few weeks. In the mean time, if you find another solution, please let me know!

I'll mark this a duplicate of #358617: How to bulk edit cck fields? since there are more people subscribed to that issue. I re-opened it and marked it as feature request. You can also modify your issue in CCK #386146: Request integration with Views Bulk Operations module to point to that other one if you don't mind.
