Description

When an anon user clicks on the menu item for mailman register it gives a permission denied error. Also (and I think this is related enough to include in the same report) it's not clear to me how this system is supposed to work for anon users. The README file refers to anon users: "anonymous user doesn't need this permission, not even when the global setting "Visible in user registration form" is on." suggesting it's supported, but I don't actually see how an anon user could sign up for a list. there doesn't seem to be a block or page or anything for signing up. It's easy enough to write a few lines of HTML to interact with mailman which is what I was doing before, but I'm not sure that avoids the password issue.

Finally, can I use the mailman interface to, for example, invite people to join the list?

Thanks,

bjorn

This feature is not yet implemented.
the anonymous permission is useless because the only way he can access the mailman registration form is when it'is going to be a drupal registered user and the UMR "Visible in user registration form" setting is on.
In fact, this setting will attach the mailman registration form to the new user registration form.
However, your request could be a useful feature for the next UMR release.

I see. Is it possible to use the mailman interface w/o mailman register, but still have mailman register installed?

Can people join the mailman mailing list and not be site members or will that screw things up (for example, if they later join the site)?

The only reason I don't want to use simplenews is because it lacks the ability to invite users.

I'm sorry but according to #351075: Unsubscribing via email not reflected in User_Mailman_Register, UMR subscription form of those users that have joined the list before registering in the drupal site will not correctly display their current subscription status.
Next 6.x-2 release will support this feature, but i'm still working on it, so, currently, the only workaround could be to periodically import the mailman database with the experimental UMR Import module in order to sync the drupal users status.

6.x-2 is ready. With this release, if a user first joins the mailman list and then the site, nothing should be screwed because he will able to display his real subscription status.

A first and rough anonymous subscription mechanism was implemented in the dev.
It has to be improved, but it should work on its main concept.

Now the feature should be completely functional in nightly dev release.
Please open new issues for related bugs.
