I'm pretty sure Views1 had advice on how to use the sticky sort, as it's not immediately obvious which of asc/desc will give you sticky at the top.
This seems to be missing in Views2, and could do to be added to the filter's help.

sticky is 1 if set sticky, so you want it to sort descending to get sticky nodes on top.
