Just wanted to say thanks for the help I've received here, but I'm moving to Joomla!

Anyone who's looking for a "CMS" rather than a "lifestyle" would be well advised to check it out too.

...but I think that I'm going to do the same. I'm just finding it very difficult to get anything that looks any good with Drupal. There's a geek in me (7 years as a real time systems software engineer so far, and that's hardcore, believe me), but this just seems to be harder than it should be for a CMS.

I'm going to start to learn Joomla and keep Drupal going on the backburner too. I won't rule it out, but I want to specilize on design and content rather than getting bogged down in configuration.

good luck. Most of us have come from Joomla at one point or another. Joomla certainly has it's place in the CMS world but you won't find the flexibility in Joomla that you have in Drupal. Beyond that you will still have to learn ;)

Fully agree, VeryM, I started with Drupal, hopped over to Joomla for a bit, then came back to Drupal to stay, never looked back. Joomla looks awesome out of the box, but once I learned enough about cms-es to know what I wanted to do with it, it was unable to do to my bidding (or, perhaps more accurately, I found myself not smart enough to bypass all that eye candy and get to the roots).

I too wish everybody good luck who moves over to Joomla, and I must say one thing: they do have a very nice community. Much like here really but slightly different :)

Drupal, while hard, is highly configurable. Things like Views and CCK are amazing. I know that in CMS software like Wordpress, most of what you can do in Drupal is just a fairy tale.

I think each system has a good use - I am not sure what type of site JOOMLA is best suited for, but I know that for large news sites with lots of users and lots of content, Drupal is pretty amazing.

For a personal site, I would definitely go with something less complicated, like Wordpress, which is basically just a glorified blog. Joomla might be better for a company website or smaller group/guild site that doesn't have tons of traffic or large amounts of new content all the time and of all types.

I will say this: I knew a lot of php before coming to drupal, but my only CMS experience was with PHPnuke. After about 3-4 months of working with drupal, I feel fairly confident and have my site running and working the way I want. It just takes some time to learn. It's not always intuitive.

Hello,

I'm a new bie, I saw many comparison-posts about joomla Vs Drupal. Many people have said that Joomla has much end-user group than developer-group, where as drupal is the reverse, it has a very good developer group and that's because of it's rich architecture which is extendable. Drupal is also becoming more user friendly.

I'd go with drupal rather than joomla, because of its built in module support and high scalability/extendability.

OK, after roughly a month of Joomla! I'm diggin it. It's got it's limitations, but they may only be mine, eg: making a static front page.

When you're talking about extensibility and scalability, Joomla! has some really great extensions that work right out of the box. No code hacks or anything! People write mods for it and then support them! That's a way better world for me.

Module support is not exclusive to Drupal.

You know how some people choose to use Windows while others go with a Mac? I see it as a very similar proposition. If you want to use something that gets supported, has market share, and has the most talent (really I'm not trying to offend anybody here, just stating my opinion) actively supporting it because it's got commercial apps, use Joomla! If you're looking for a way to tell the world that you're special because you're shunning the establishment, use Drupal.

CCK is great, but I just don't like solving the same problem over and over. As far as Web 2.0 style forums or eCommerce apps go, there's no comparison. I still maintain Drupal sites, because I screwed up and didn't research it enough, but I'm not doing anything new with it. As soon as enough time passes for me to change again without pissing off my members, I'm done with Drupal all together.

Oh yeah, Joomla! hasn't caused me to have 100 new Russian users in the past 4 weeks. I know, I know, install the CAPTCHA module or the other CAPTCHA module, or some other one. That's the thing, I just want a CMS not a lifestyle.

I'm not a hardcore php developer dude. I can find my way around some code for sure, but when I'm trying to execute a business plan, I find it more efficient to not have to. Making money is my goal here. Joomla! helps me do that faster.

Good luck! let us know when you are back to Drupal, if ever. Some people like easy things, like not time to go thru some learning process, others like to learn new things, like challenging, and grow beyond their imagination.

I came from Joomla and love Drupal even more!!
I miss some of the ease and speed of Joomla! specially the forums, themes and support.
I wish we can get faster and better support over here, that will make a big difference for sure. Some of my posts here never got an answer, I can live with that for now...until we find a solution and make it better, right?

I say those who move to Joomla will eventually come back...

This was an april fools joke at one time in years past if I remember correctly. glorilla theme is available on drupal.org
