Return to taxonomy.module integration?

First off I'd like to congratulate you on an elegant and comprehensive module. It's really very cool. Given all the work put into it I feel a little bad even opening up this ticket. Nevertheless, I feel compelled.

I felt one of the truly unique & attractive aspects of the original GCG module was its integration with the taxonomy module. Is returning to this model completely out of the question?

You mention in the module description that is was dropped "because regular taxonomy integration makes (it) impossible to implement important features." I'm wondering if you could elaborate a bit. What are those features and why they wont work with taxonomy.module?
