I have installed Taxonomy Access Control, but cannot follow the instructions to apply the provided taxonomy.patch as I do not have shell access to my server. Is there another alternative to applying this patch or do I need to see if I can get my ISP to run the command for me?

You can download the file and apply the patch locally in Windows.

Two solutions:
a) your web hosting firm might do the patch for you (mine did)
b) (probably easier) a patched version of the taxonomy.module has now kindly been provided by Keve who is maintaining the TAC module - go to the taxonomy_access support postings to find it.
