My one month old problem: I can't get a digital file to be uploaded. I am getting a 500 error saying "Premature end of headers scripts - cgi_php5"
I am hosting with Ixwebhosting.

They said it is a "rewriterule" issue in the .htaccess file.
I got 3 htaccess files in this drupal installation.
One is in the root (original htaccess file)
One is created by drupal in the "files" directory with couple of lines
One is created by drupla in the "tmp" director with same couple of lines

I can't figure out where is the problem.

Drupal is supposed to place the "digital product" in the "tmp" during preview, then move it to "downloads" foldere (set in the product type), then move it to the final folder (set in the product feature). The file is moved to "downloads" only, but not to final destination. I tried to place final destination everywhere including outside document root. same thing.everytime.

Off the top of my head, check to make sure the file download settings (product feature) are correct and most importantly the mask property is at its default (.* if I recall). I have seen people change this in the past accidentally and receive 500 errors.

I have been trying everything for a month.
I didn't touch the (.*) default setting of the file mask.

I have placed the required file download directory in the product feature everywhere (i.e. outside the drupal directory, inside drupal directory - same level as "files", inside the "files" directory, etc.)....no dice. same problem.

If i create a product with an image only - it is fine. no problem there.

If i creare a digital product - consistent 500 error. The digital file in the "downloads" directory within the "files" directory. But it is not being moved to the final destination specified in the product feature.

Either i am missing something BIG TIME..... or the stupid hosting company (i.e. ixwebhosting) has restricted something somewhere. Their support staff are useless. Some of them don't even understand i am talking about when i say "drupal". They said it is an .htaccess file issue. It may as well be a permission issue. They also told me that apache is running under my own username. Is that possible? They have "my username" under both "user" and "group" for permissions. If apache is running as the same user as me, then drupal is running as the same user as me. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING!!!!.

i am seriously considering going with another hosting company, but i don't know which one is best for a combination of drupal+ubercart+ubercart_marketplace. if you know a good hosting company, let me know too.....but first, i want to solve this problem if i can for another week.

Never mind guys.

I moved my site from ixwebhosting to hostgator, and the problem described in this thread was solved. Obviously it was the hosting company's server configuration...and they were saying it is my coding....My $&@#&!!....GOOD BYE IXWEBHOSTING
