404 Blocks module prevents access to protected subdirectories

Hi,

I installed the 404 Blocks package. Now, whenever I try to reach a password-protectd subdirectory of my site, I get sent to the error page instead of seeing the challenge window.

How can I fix this? I would prefer keeping the 404 Blocks module to keep my menu displayed on the left hand side.
