I have downloaded and enabled Organic Groups module, and created a group content type. I then created an instance of the Group content type via "Create content", and configured the instance as Closed and Private.

I then went to Home -> Groups and clicked "My groups" tab, and that displayed the group I created. I attempted to add a member to the group by clicking the "Edit membership" hyperlink, but I got the following message in the resulting page:

"You may not leave this group because it is a closed group. You should request removal from a group administrator."

I don't know if I am missing any permissions; I have checked repeatedly but could not locate any missing permissions.

Can someone please help explain how to add member(s) to a group?

All inputs appreciated.

Thanks.

I got 'Add members' tab and was able to add members, but that was after I edited the group and checked 'List in groups directory'.

So, does it mean then that one can only add members to a group that is listed on the group directory? I think that group administrator or manager should be able to add members regardless of whether 'List in groups directory' or 'Private group' is selected in the group's setup.

Any ideas/explanations are appreciated.

Thanks.

I am seeing this same behavior. When the group is in the listing you can click on the hyperlinked number for the number of members of the group and the "add member" tab appears (it is not obvious that you're supposed to do this). But, if the group is selected for private the number of members link does not appear on the admin's My Group's list and therefore one can't add members. It would be great to get this fixed, since private groups is such an important feature but without the ability to ad members, while maintaining the privacy of the group (i.e. keeping it off the directory listing), some (but not all) of the value is lost (you can always make a group public, add the members, and then make it private again).

Thanks for posting this. You saved me a lot of trouble. I think this is a bug.
