I have a completely stupid question...

My guestbooks are only available to the administer. Am I missing a something? I've looked through all the permissions and I can't find anything.

Any help would be amazing.

Sorry, I do not understand the question. Please elaborate more on your issue, especially on the "only available" part.

When I log in as the admin I can post comments to users' guestbooks. However when I log in as an authenticated user the guestbook says 'You are not allowed to post on this guestbook'. I've double/triple checked the permissions and everything seems to be correct there.

Did you already test whether this issue also exists in 2.x?

Completed - no. But you are safe to use it. See #295015: Guestbook 2.0 for issues that have been fixed in there.
