It seems making field editable removed the customization of Garland.
(Just the Theme configure for my color scheme - no hacking of theme.)

Tested with FF3 on MEPIS 8, and xampp
Tested with FF3 on Vista using Wampserver

others have reported something similar, I think it is/was a problem with ajax load - could you try the latest dev versions of everything (cck, editblefields, and the latest ajax-load)
