Hi Gang,

Mother Jones Magazine recently re-launched in Drupal 5. We still have a very active bi-monthly print magazine and do not have a good process developed for exporting the finished print product from Adobe InDesign to our website. We'd like some help!

This might be a multi stage process, first to just get some general advice about how to structure InDesign, and later, to help with a more sophisticated integration.

Please get in touch with me!

Hello Nick,
I co-edit Peacework Magazine (www.peaceworkmagazine.org) and we have the same issue.
Right now, we layout in Indesign CS3, then use the free textexporter plugin from Rorohiko (http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/text-exporter/) to export all the stories in the Indesign Document out to Rich Text Format (RTF).
But each new author needs to be created in Drupal, the RTF still needs to be converted to html, and then pasted into the article form in Drupal and tagged with our indexing metadata. Ugh.
In theory, Indesign can export our styled article text in xhtml, but when we've tried it on an experimental basis the import had to be cleaned up so much that it ended up as more work than doing it the way we're doing it, according to the IT staffperson who tried it.
I posted on a thread about this over two years ago, but haven't heard much since (http://drupal.org/node/48243)
If anyone else has ideas, or can share the workarounds you're using, that would be great.
Peace,
Sam Diener
