I get this error when logging into livejournal, but sourceforge works fine.

Same here. Additionally, I cannot login at stackoverflow.com either.

I see no entries in Drupal's log regarding any errors. Any ideas how to better troubleshoot this or otherwise provide more information for the maintainers or the OP?

this is most certainly a failure of compat mode (which is unimplemented) ... marking as a dup of #334876
