In the latest version of HEAD from CVS it appears that you can't check the "list" checkbox for attachments on a node. The installation I reproduced this on was using the "private" download method. If it makes any difference I was trying to attach these to a book node.

I went into the database and flipped the flag manually and it seems to work ok, just can't do it from the GUI. Browsers (if it helps) - both FireFox 1.0.7 and Safari on Mac OS X Tiger had the problem.

I verified this had been fixed in the latest version of HEAD. Closing issue.
