I have recently setup Drupal 4.6.4 on a Win2k/IIS platform. Whent I request the /index.php page the following text displays at the top of the page:
{head} {styles} {_BLOCK_.header.logo} {_BLOCK_.header.site_name} {secondary_links}
{primary_links}
{_BLOCK_.header.search_box}
{_BLOCK_.header.blocks} {_BLOCK_.header.message}
The rest of the page contains the appropriate text with functional links. Why is the header not rendoring correctly?

After more testing I've found that this issue only pertains to the bluemarine and pushbutton themes. The chameleon and marvin themes are working fine.

I'm having the same problem.
Just installed a fresh copy of Drupal 4.6.4
I use WinXP, Apache 2.0.55, PHP 5.1.0, mySQL
PHPTemplate Themes seem to be working OK also.

At a guess, you are using
At a guess, you are using php5.0.5 or higher. PHP changed some function handling and there documentation. The xTemplate engine didn't like it. The best workaround is to switch to phpTemplate based theme's.
Please document, check for previous issue filing and submit an issue against the project.
To the other poster's comment about a nasty gram? Why? Why not just file an issue without being mean?

Same Problem
I have been going through this for about 3 hours. I even checked the forum several times and evidentely overlooked this one.
Are there any standards being set for revisions? Is "Someone" going to write an install frontend for Drupal. (take some hints from Joomla, e107 and phpnuke).
I have installed 4 other CMS' in 3 minutes or less "Without" practice, and I'm a novice.
I love Drupal, but this (drudging through forums for "basic" installation issues) get's old quick!
Just a side note: When I started out with this thought of "Content Management" I did not even know that there were programs already written, I was going to learn PHP and write one at the same time.
My brother introduced me to "Open Source", then I found Drupal. You can only imagine my delight! After fussing with Drupal about 3-weeks ago I decided to can it. I tried phpnuke,
I liked to fell over in my chair when I saw the front end installation they use;
Java, prompted, accurate and to the point.
It has flexibility (don't tell me that flexibility cost you in frustration, cause I ain't buying it) usability, and seems very dependable when you get it up and running. It is Fun!
Let me repeat:
**** Drupal is Fun! ***It is exciting when you think; "hey, I wonder if . . .?" and 10-minutes later
(sometimes more)
you ARE doing it.

Your post reads erratically and I am unsure what you are trying to say. You swtched to phpNuke or you are still using Drupal?
If you want an installer, use the CivicSpaceLabs.org pre-packaged Drupal based system. Hosted environments have a lot a variation.
If you want to help, then here's the starting point for future plans. http://drupal.org/install-system-overview
There is a lot of underlying work going into 4.7 to lay the foundation for further improvements in the future but the approach is incremental and studied, not just slap things in without consideration of the effects of the entire system and how it is used.
As to installation, it takes about 5 minutes to install Drupal. 3 minutes is firing up a web browser and downloading the tarball.

It's not erratic, it's to the point.
- I have decided that Drupal IS the CMS to use.
- I want an installer; My suggestion is that an Installer be "C O R E" Drupal.
- 2 minutes (do the math) to install Drupal is unrealistic, especially for a new user who does not understand the Way's of Drupal.
- You are obviously well versed in Drupal, and I commend you for that. But please, do not loose site of the formula for success. I respect that fact that the "Drupal Dev Team" is not just "slapping things in there because a person who has never posted here before asked for it" Namely "M E !".
- My suggestion for an Installer was simply a constructive comment. That comment was made from "my perspective" which I previously outlined but will reiterate. New to CMS and New to Drupal and all of the other CMS's out there.
- My Perspective is the same as many others; at least that is the way I see it from the post that I poured through "BEFORE I Even considered posting here"
- I hope that helps clearify some of the possible misconceptions or "read-ins" from the first post.
- I will tell you this: If I had half the brain that you guy's do, I would jump in there in a "New-York-Minute" and help you bang out some code.
- In the mean time, I will work with what I know, keep striving to know more, keep reading the forums, keep posting "stupid" questions and keep supporting Drupal.

Good on sticking Drupal, you'll have better sites for it.
Lots of people 'want' an installer. Please folow the link on the installer project. It will be core, but it will not be rushed. It's more involved then just putting something in there. I provided the link so that you could see the issues involved. This was to help you find resources and existing areas of discussion on the issue.
I am confused about the formula for success comment. Quality code will attract more developers and other people who will contribute work. That is the formula here.
You are right, 2 minutes is unrealistic for new people. If you set up and tear down a test site a few times, you should be down to 5-10 minutes in about 10 setups (see Best Practices link on test sites).
Your post as a new user was fine. Please follow the link on the issues involved with an install system. My post was not to slam you, it was to provide you with information on existing efforts that you as a new user were likely unaware of.
I still don't know php. Your assistence over time in the forums, documentation, graphics, enthusiasm will all bear fruit.
You question wasn't stupid, and my answer did not imply that.
