I can't find the advanced search on this site (and therefore I can't find what I'm looking for. :( )

can someone tell me where it went?

Put in your keywords, then filter results with the options in the right sidebar.

I see no options in the right sidebar.

I put in my keywords and get 16 pages of results because I can't search just one area.

For searching modules, you'll want to start from the module search page: http://drupal.org/project/modules.

How do you search another area, and only that area? like just documentation?

Did they get rid of the old advanced search where you could enter a bunch of options to narrow down your search?

As matt said previously, you enter your initial search terms, then on the results page there are blocks in the right sidebar (type, author, sort order etc.)
