Thanks for taking a look at the module in it primitive state guys. The interface we require seems incompatible with Hierarchical Select. Hierarchical Select is geared to handle N-Tier hierarchies and would be limited by this interface unless there were tabs of tabs anyhow.
It is to be a simple interface aimed at helping users with simple taxonomies.
I also updated the project page to try and help make the differences clear and draw attention to the mentioned modules. I'm sure once a screenshot and a demo are up, that will help as well. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Definitely share the same goals. Though its useful application is limited to 2-Level multiple selects, the desired interface was the issue here again.
