infinite loop on D5.16 and GR5.x-1.5

Hi,
I am getting the following error when activating Global redirect:
Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects. (chrome)
and going into an infinite loop in IE - all except the homepage - but some elements are missing there.
Have tried 5.x-1.4 and got the same problems
Any thoughts appreciated?
