(sorry for my english)
I think it would be better that entering in "waiting mode" (with chainging cursor to "wait") change cursor to "progress", or better use small animated gif at right of changed select. Because "wait" cursor look like browser's malfunction and does not indicate "processing" state.

You can see the progress cursor here: http://www.javascriptkit.com/dhtmltutors/csscursors.shtml. And it doesn't look particularly better IMO.
You'll have to come with better arguments, such as authoritative articles that say what's the best method.

I dont' trust any "authoritative articles", the best authority for me it's me.
I offer the better solution imho, if you have another opinion, it's you right not to implement my improvements, because it's your project, not my.
On my site I already have changed cursor to "progress" by replacing "$('body').css('cursor', 'wait');" with "$('body').css('cursor', 'progress');" in hierarchical_select.js
I have never see before on any site, that ajax forms change cursor to other, while waiting server response, instead of this they use animated gif or nothing.

Yes, but this was easier to implement and was originally suggested by some other usability guy :)
Any chance you could come up with a patch that adds a nice animated gif? :)
If not, this is too low-priority for me – many more important things to come first, so it'll have to wait a long time then.

All right. I understand and agree with this.
If I will implement variant with animated gif, I will post it here.
