Hi you, Drupal experienced guys...

I'm about to create a website for one of my close friends who set up her own business and that is a dancing school.
I'll be creating this for more then reasonable price, more or less for free...but anyway I need to know a couple of things:

1) the website is for a dancing school
2) some kind of a background for employees, which should cover a user management and something like overview over all the courses going on so that all employees can see who is teaching when a what(I reckon I might need a special kind of plugin for this, tailored to my specific needs)
3) some kind of dynamic calendar for displaying important upcoming events
4) other bits and pieces that could be possibly needed by a dancing school

I considered wordpress but while that is 'just' a blogging platform I'm rather for something else and therefore I came accross Drupal.
Can PLEASE somebody say if Drupal is suitable to this kind of project, or which else CMS would you advice me to choose...

THANK YOU, Jan.

Drupal is exactly what you need. Look at the events module, for the calendar thing, and with the CCK module, you can create custom page types which could be, 'teacher', this would be a normal page (node) but you can add extra details, such as age, subject taught etc. You would probably want some sort of forum, or discussion board which comes with the standard drupal package, and image area or something. Drupal should be ideal for you.

I would like to see how did the dance school website shape up in drupal - can you share the link here ?

Just like the previous poster (moronkreacionz), i would be interested to see what you've done so far.

In the spirit of full disclosure, i am considering doing a website for a dance school. However, the idea is but a twinkle in my eye at the moment as i am currently working on revamping a very sorry PTA website.

In all likelihood the dance school website would just be for kicks and to get more familiar with Drupal, as the dance school proprietor is very unlikely to purchase my end product.

Shantih,
Tom

For the matter of fact, you can do anything with Drupal that you want.
Its just that if you don't find a suitable contributed module on d.o. , you have to develop your own, which satisfy your requirements.
